1. Service Description

Japan Driver's License Translation Center (JDLTC), operated by キャンプ女子株式会社 (Camjyo Inc.), which also runs VAN TRIP JAPAN, provides a proxy application service for the official driver's license translation issued by JAF (Japan Automobile Federation). As this JAF translation can only be applied for within Japan, we handle the application process on your behalf for visitors from eligible countries (Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Monaco, and Taiwan).

2. Eligible Countries

Our translation service is available only for driver's licenses issued by the following countries: Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Monaco, and Taiwan. These are the countries whose licenses require a Japanese translation rather than an International Driving Permit.

3. Processing Time

Processing time depends on the processing speed you choose. Counted from the date of application submission and payment confirmation, in Japanese business days (Monday to Friday, excluding Japanese public holidays):

• Standard: about 3–4 weeks (15–20 business days)
• Express: 5–7 business days
• Rush: 1–3 business days

All processing times are estimates, not guaranteed deadlines. The translation is issued by JAF, and JAF's processing is outside our control. Processing times may vary during peak travel seasons.

4. Delivery

When your translation is ready, we send it as a PDF by email to the address provided during application. You can use the PDF to book your rental car.

While driving in Japan, JAF requires you to carry its paper original of the translation together with your original driver's license. A PDF or a home print does not replace JAF's paper original for driving.

Optional original delivery in Japan: if you select this option when applying, we deliver the paper original to your hotel or rental counter in Japan. It costs an additional €10 / CHF 10 / NT$350 and is not included in the base price. Delivery can be made at the earliest on the day after the latest estimated completion date for your processing speed; the application form shows the exact earliest date. We contact the hotel or rental office in Japanese to arrange receipt of the parcel, but acceptance by the hotel or rental office and a particular arrival date cannot be guaranteed. If you do not select this option, your translation is delivered as the PDF only.

5. Requirements

• Your driver's license must be valid (not expired) at the time of application
• You must provide clear, legible photos of both sides of your license
• JAF's paper original of the translation must be carried together with your original license at all times while driving in Japan

6. Payment and Pricing

All payments are processed securely through Stripe. Prices are displayed in the currency of the country that issued your driver's license (EUR, CHF or TWD). The optional original delivery fee is added only if you select it, and the application shows the total before payment. Payment is required before processing begins.

7. Refund Policy

• Before processing begins: Full refund available
• After processing has started: No refund, as the translation work has begun
• Rejected applications: Full refund if your application cannot be processed (e.g., ineligible country, unreadable license images)

8. Validity

The translation is valid for 1 year from your date of entry into Japan. If you leave Japan and re-enter, the 1-year validity period resets from your new entry date.

9. Disclaimer

JDLTC acts as a proxy application service for JAF-issued translations. While we facilitate the application process, JDLTC is not responsible for:

• Changes in Japanese driving regulations or JAF policies
• Traffic violations or accidents while driving in Japan
• Loss of or damage to the paper original after it has been delivered
• Any consequences of driving in Japan without JAF's paper original of the translation (the PDF, or a print of it, does not replace the paper original)
• Any consequences arising from the use of the translation document
